Emergent Political Economies
Reimagining the core assumptions of economic, political, and social life.
The most pressing problems faced by society today are emergent, rendering the methods and tools researchers and politicians have inherited insufficient to understand and shape the systems of modern political and economic life. Solutions to problems such as global climate change and its impacts on evolving social and economic systems; inequitable access to food, healthcare, and education; and the automation of and mechanization of work make manifest the need for new generative frameworks for theorists and practitioners. The Emergent Political Economies (EPE) program at the Santa Fe Institute will take up this ethical imperative to develop better frameworks, models, and theories to help advance a new paradigm of political economy.
