Micro Working Group
  US Mountain Time

Our campus is closed to the public for this event.

Meeting Summary: Calls have repeatedly been made to apply computational techniques, like agent-based modeling, too many issues impacting humans worldwide. These techniques can also help improve our understanding of a fragmented past, and the ways the past led to where we are today. However, formal training in agent-based modeling and other computational techniques is lacking. While other digital methods have been increasing in general, the technical aspect of ABM methodology remains a significant obstacle for a wider adoption among academic and commercial archaeologists and anthropologists. To address this, the participants of this micro working group proposed to write a textbook on agent-based modeling aimed at social scientists; this book is being published by SFI Press in late 2020. Following up on the finished text, this micro working group creates many digital tools for SFI Education and SFI Press to enable hands-on learning of computational social science to any interested practitioner.
