Devin White

Devin leads the Autonomous Sensing & Perception group at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He brings his expertise in machine intelligence, remote sensing, imaging science, photogrammetry, computer vision, geographic information science, computational social science, complex systems, and high-performance computing to bear on a wide array of contemporary issues of national and global importance as well as others that extend deep into humanity’s past.

Devin received Bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and History from the University of California, Berkeley in 1999 and his Master’s and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2002 and 2007, respectively. Formally trained as an archaeologist who primarily worked in the US Southwest, Devin quickly realized the potential of geospatial technologies and high-performance computing to explore broad and deep questions in prehistory, pioneering many quantitative approaches that continue to be at the cutting edge today. He parlayed those initial experiences into a constantly evolving career that has enabled him to advance the frontiers of knowledge across multiple disciplines, weaving insights about the past into solutions for the present day and leveraging present-day technologies to better understand the past.

Prior to joining Sandia, Devin was the Distinguished Scientist for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has also served in many science and engineering roles in the private sector, where he provided subject matter expertise and developed critical capabilities for many government organizations in Washington, DC.
