SFI External Professor Mahzarin Banaji, the Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics at Harvard University, has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS).

External Professor Pablo Marquet has also been elected to the NAS as a foreign associate — a nonvoting member with citizenship outside the United States. Marquet is a full professor of ecology at Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, Chile.

Election to the NAS is a recognition of distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Banaji and Marquet join 84 new members and 21 new foreign associates in the academy. A private, nonprofit institution established under a congressional charter in 1863, the NAS provides policy advice to the federal government and other organizations.
