Former SFI Postdoc Jeremy Van Cleve, now an assistant professor of biology at the University of Kentucky, has received a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation.

The prestigious NSF CAREER Program awards funds to support early-career faculty “who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education” to support activities that “build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research,” writes the NSF.

Van Cleve’s research includes “building mathematical and computation theory to understand evolution in complex populations and environments,” writes the University of Kentucky in a press release. The five-year, $780,000 award will support his research into the genetic foundations of organisms' social behaviors, and will also help develop a program to teach students of all ages about the tools of data science and computational biology.
