Meeting Description:  Social learning is the cornerstone of human culture, underlying important social processes such as spread of beliefs, social norms, and collective decision making. A number of disciplines investigate how individuals learn from each other, often asking similar questions but being unaware of promising methods and established results in other fields. This workshop intends to bring together leading researchers studying social learning within fields of social psychology, political science, evolutionary anthropology, animal learning, statistical physics, and computer science. During 4 days in the Fall of 2017, they will discuss similarities and differences in 1) questions different disciplines are asking, 2) methods they are using, and 3) main results established so far. They will work in small groups to develop interdisciplinary projects that can inform unresolved questions in different disciplines, or can profit from using methods developed within another discipline. Finally, they will write a draft of a review article integrating different perspective on social learning.
